Ultrasound (US)

Ultrasound inspection consists of detecting internal discontinuities in materials that are not visible to the eye but pose serious risks to the structure and safety of the site.

Ultrasound devices emit waves with a frequency of more than 20 kHz and when these waves encounter an obstacle in the propagation medium, such as a crack, the phenomenon of wave reflection occurs, which is picked up by the equipment.

Ultrasound testing has proven to be extremely important in industry because:

  • Identify invisible and critical flaws in the structure.
  • Offer safety to the operator.
  • Don't be invasive.
  • Provide reliable results.

The applications of ultrasound are diverse, such as tests on: weld seams, laminates, forgings, castings, metal alloys, ceramics, rubber, composite materials, etc.

ULTRASONIC THICKNESS MEASUREMENT

Ultrasound is also used for thickness measurement. In this case, using a meter with a digital readout, it is possible to measure the thickness of walls in order to detect a reduction in measurements due to corrosion, where internal access is impossible.
